Add coco coir, vermiculite and gypsum to your 5 gallon bucket. Boil 6-8 cups of water (amounts needed may vary depending on altitude and humidity). Pour boiling water into bucket with dry ingredients. Secure lid and wrap bucket in towel.
Let sit to pasteurize, hydrate and cool for 24 hours. Be as sanitary as possible from here on work in a clean environment and be sure to wear clean gloves and sanitize your mono tub with alcohol.
Remove lid and mix thoroughly. Test for field capacity (fc) - correct amount of moisture in mix. Good field capacity is extremely important. Important - squeeze a handful of substrate mix firmly in your hand. Proper field capacity is 1-4 drops of water expelled when squeezed. If more than 3 or 4 drops of water is expelled then you have too much water in the substrate. If the substrate is too wet then you must squeeze and wring the water out of the mixture before proceeding. If substrate is too dry add 1/2 a cup of water and mix until proper field capacity is achieved. Add 1 of pasteurized and hydrated substrate mix to the bottom of tub.
Add 2lbs of fully colonized grain spawn to tub and mix thoroughly into pasteurized and hydrated substrate mix. Add additional 1 of pasteurized and hydrated substrate mix evenly.
Pack down substrate mix evenly. Cover tub and keep temperature between 72-82 f. Colonization should begin in 3-5 days. Keep tub covered until fully colonized.Once fully colonized open tub and begin allowing oxygen into the tub. This is the start fruiting stage. Keep tub moist and hydrated by misting water daily onto the sides of the tub.
Keep tub oxygenated by allowing air flow into the tub or fanning air to circulate co2 out and oxygen in. This item is made of coco coir, vermiculite and gypsum.
