I designed and 3d printed a portable budget laminar flow hood for those who wanted a cheaper alternative to spending much more on a full-size flow hood. This uses an actual blower and is not just a box with a computer fan inside. It has a 0-2600rpm blower to achieve laminar flow. It also utilizes a custom designed and printed diverter plate to direct air flow across the entire surface. I tested its capabilities by putting 2 open agar plates in front of the flow for an hour.
I then incubated each plate for 5 days and neither ever showed any signs of contamination. They are made to order so they have a longer processing time due to the 3d printing involved. They use a readily available. 3-micron hepa filter that will catch 99.97 airborne contamination providing nice clean air across your work. The usable area is around 7" x 10". Tan was used in picture to show detailed contrast.
