10kg sterilised millet, made to order for absolute freshness, supplied in top quality unicorn mushroom spawn bags with self-healing injection ports added for convenience. This listing is for 10kg of sterilised millet supplied as 10 x 1kg bags.

While many growers use sterilised rye grain, which we also sell, when making their own mushroom grain spawn, millet can sometimes be a better choice. Millet is ideal for mushroom cultivation, either for mushroom spawn or if used as a substrate supplement. The benefits of millet are that it has a much lower endospore load than rye, making it less prone to contamination, and the small grain size provides a much higher number of inoculation points for a given volume of grain. This means it typically colonises faster - again reducing the risk of contamination during the inoculation stage.

Once colonised, your mycelium can then spread more easily through the substrate. It's also a a high-nutrient medium, which encourages rapid mycelial expansion. We produce sterilised millet to order, so a delay of 2 or sometimes 3 days can be expected between an order being placed and being dispatched. The same as when using rye, simply inject 4-6ml of your chosen liquid culture or spore solution (not included) into the millet via the provided injection port and set the bag aside to colonise. Be sure to learn the requirements of the specific mushroom type you wish to grow to ensure you store the grain in the right conditions during colonisation.

This listing is for 10kg of sterilised millet supplied as 10 x 1kg bags but we always add a small amount extra to each bag to ensure nobody gets less than they pay for. All bags are made to order, no more than 48 hours prior to dispatch, meaniing bags are supplied sterile. Contamination cannot occur prior to your use unless the bags are spilt in transit - in which case please send us a photograph of the bag showing the damage and a replacement will be dispatched without delay.
